Good morning Resident🚓 West Midlands Police in Wolverhampton Support World Alzheimer’s Month 2025 with Community Engagement and Safeguarding InitiativesThroughout September 2025, West Midlands Police in Wolverhampton are actively supporting World Alzheimer’s Month with a series of initiatives focused on safety, awareness, and community connection. Their work aims to create a more dementia-friendly city and ensure vulnerable individuals are protected and supported.
🛡️ Safeguarding Vulnerable Individuals The force continues to lead the way in safeguarding those living with dementia: Herbert Protocol: This well-established tool allows carers and families to record essential details about individuals with dementia who are at risk of going missing. The information helps officers respond quickly and effectively if a person is reported missing. Dementia-Friendly Policing: West Midlands Police remain one of the few UK forces to be formally dementia-accredited. This recognition reflects their comprehensive approach, which includes specialist training for officers and dedicated safeguarding procedures.
📅 Events During World Alzheimer’s Month Throughout September, the force is involved in a range of events to raise awareness and connect with the public: Dementia Awareness Day – 7 September 2025: A major free event is being held at the Lord Knight Suite, Tally Ho Conference & Banqueting Centre in Birmingham. Attendees can meet with dementia support organisations, view demonstrations of personal tracking devices, hear from guest speakers, and access a range of information and advice on dementia care and safety. Local Outreach in Wolverhampton: Officers will also be present at libraries, supermarkets, community centres, and markets across the city. These outreach events offer personal safety guidance, dementia resources, and help with registering individuals with the Herbert Protocol.
🎓 Ongoing Training and Partnerships West Midlands Police continue to invest in internal training and external collaboration: Officer Training: New recruits, call handlers, and frontline staff are trained to recognise signs of dementia and handle interactions with empathy and clarity. Multi-Agency Work: The police are working closely with the Alzheimer’s Society, local health professionals, NHS dementia nurses, and council services to deliver coordinated care and awareness throughout the region.
🧩 Building a Dementia-Friendly West Midlands By combining frontline action, community outreach, and professional partnerships, West Midlands Police are helping to make Wolverhampton a safer and more inclusive place for people living with dementia.
